A dark-mode debt payoff spreadsheet that shows your debt-free date and the order to pay your debts.
This is the dark version of our Debt Payoff Planner: the same 7 tabs, the same formulas and the same features, on a charcoal background with soft teal, coral, lavender and mustard accents.
List each debt once: balance, interest rate (APR) and minimum payment. Pick Snowball or Avalanche and type the extra you can pay each month. The Plan tab shows your debt-free date, your total interest, and Snowball, Avalanche and minimums only side by side. Then log each payment and watch 100 boxes fill as your debt goes down.
You type in Setup once, then one row in Payments each time you pay a debt. Once a month, add your statement balances in Progress. Every other tab fills itself. No locked cells.
WHAT YOU GET · 3 FILES
- Debt-Payoff-Planner-Dark.xlsx: your blank planner, up to 10 debts, 20 years of months
- Debt-Payoff-Planner-Dark-EXAMPLE.xlsx: the same file filled with made-up sample data (6 debts, Snowball, payments logged January to September 2026), so you can click around before you start
- Debt-Payoff-Planner-Dark-Quick-Start-Guide.pdf (4 pages): which file to open, the 3 steps, Snowball vs Avalanche with the example's numbers, 7 simple rules, questions and answers, and your Google Sheets "Make a copy" link
DARK MODE
- Every tab is dark: backgrounds, tables, the 100 boxes and both charts.
- Type in the boxes with a thin border. Grey cells fill themselves.
- The dark colors are built into the file. There is nothing to switch on.
- Made for the screen. If you print a tab, the dark background uses a lot of ink.
- Prefer light pages? See the light version below.
SNOWBALL OR AVALANCHE?
- Snowball pays the smallest balance first: quick wins.
- Avalanche pays the highest interest rate first: less interest overall.
- Not sure? The Plan tab shows both side by side, plus minimums only. Switch any time in Setup.
- From the example file (made-up numbers, an example only): 6 debts, 37,250 in total, 1,111 a month (811 in minimums + 300 extra). Snowball: debt-free Feb 2029, 4,329 in interest. Avalanche: debt-free Feb 2029, 4,138 in interest. Minimums only: Jun 2035, 9,789 in interest. Your numbers will be different.
7 TABS
- Start Here: three steps and short tips, with links to Setup, Plan and Payments
- Setup: first payment month, Snowball or Avalanche, extra per month and currency symbol, then up to 10 debts with balance, interest rate (APR) and minimum per month
- Plan: debt-free date, total interest, interest and months saved compared with paying minimums only, Snowball vs Avalanche vs minimums only, your payoff order with the month each debt is paid off, a "where your money goes" chart and a "debt left at the end of each year" chart
- Schedule: every month of your plan with payment, interest, debt left and the balance of each debt. A green cell marks the month a debt is paid off.
- Payments: the one log you fill in. Date, debt (from a drop-down), amount and a note. 600 rows ready.
- Progress: start, paid so far, statement balance and balance now for each debt, % paid off, Paid off ✔ / In progress / Not started, a 100-box chart (1 box = 1% of your debt paid off) and an "Are you on track?" check
- Calc: the automatic math behind the plan (no need to touch)
WHY IT'S SIMPLE
- The snowball is built in. When a debt is paid off, its money moves to the next debt by itself.
- Compare before you choose: Snowball, Avalanche and minimums only, side by side.
- See what your extra payment changes: interest and months compared with paying minimums only.
- Watch the boxes fill. Every box is 1% of your debt paid off.
- Stay close to your statements. Type your statement balance once a month and Progress uses it.
- Nothing is locked. No passwords, no macros. Click any grey cell to see its formula.
- No video needed. The Start Here tab and the 4-page guide cover everything.
HOW IT WORKS
- After checkout, click the download button on your order confirmation page. The same download link is also in your order confirmation email.
- Open the quick-start guide. Use its Google Sheets link to make your own copy, or open the blank .xlsx in Excel.
- Setup, about 5 minutes: pick your first payment month, Snowball or Avalanche and your extra per month, then list each debt with its balance, APR and minimum.
- Read your Plan: your debt-free date and the order to pay your debts.
- Each time you pay a debt, add one row in Payments. Once a month, type your statement balances in Progress and see if you are on track.
COMPATIBILITY
- Google Sheets: use the "Make a copy" link in the guide (a free Google account is needed)
- Excel 2016 or newer on Windows (tested in Excel 2021)
- On a Mac? Use the Google Sheets copy
- Set it up on a computer. On a phone or tablet, open your copy in the free Google Sheets app to add entries and check it on the go. Phone web browsers show a read-only view.
- Not for Apple Numbers.
- Any currency: pick or type your currency symbol. It's a label only; nothing is converted.
- Up to 10 debts. The plan looks 20 years ahead; a debt that takes longer shows "20+ years".
GOOD TO KNOW
- This is a digital download. No physical item will be shipped.
- For personal use only. You may gift one copy to one person. Please don't share, resell or redistribute the files or the Google Sheets link beyond that.
- English only.
- Colors may look slightly different on different screens.
- This is a planning tool, not financial advice. Interest is an estimate (APR ÷ 12 each month); your lender may count it differently, so check your statements.
- Designed with the help of AI tools, then checked by hand.
